Tradition & Technology
Thanks to Syntonie's recognized know-how in the ergonomics of reading, a seamless blend of interactive technology and traditional watercolor animation was created. The illustrator's work was strictly respected to preserve the quality of hand-colored paintings, drawn and animated image by image. Our ambition? Nothing short of producing one of the first classics for the iPad.

Paper, ink, and…
computers

In addition to the artists, a complete team of animators, developers, graphic designers, FX and sound engineers has worked together to enhance A Word's a Bird with their expertise. Technology is seamlessly interwoven with content. Animation brings paintings to life, and a no-button interface keeps interactivity natural. A rich visual, auditory and tactile experience awaits all those who download A Word's a Bird.

CHILDREN LEARN THROUGH PLAY
The app makes metaphor, the heart and soul of poetry, visible to even the youngest children. They will understand, by playing with the animated watercolors, how a flowering shoot becomes a flute when you touch it, how a bloom makes a cozy room for a bee. This is hands-on learning.
METAPHORS MAKE SURPRISING CONNECTIONS
Orel has decades of experience working with children. Holding up an orange, she asked a kindergarten class to complete the phrase, "Round as..." A little girl said, "Round as love." "How is love round?" Orel asked her. "Like this," she said, making a circle with her arms, "when you hug someone."

THE HUMAN VOICE, THE NATURAL WORLD
A Word's a Bird makes Nature come to life on your iPad. You can hear the real sounds of insects, birds, frogs, wind, water and more.
The poems are narrated by Kenny Mann, a film maker, writer and teacher who grew up in Kenya with keen appreciation for the natural world.
